The

shows the main train connections to the
Kleinwalsertal.
The train station closest to Hirschegg is
Oberstdorf in Germany (it
is the end station of that train line). From there you can get the
Walser bus
to Hirschegg, which according to the present time table leaves about
every 30 minutes from 7:10 until 21:00. The bus ride takes about 20
minutes. The bus stop closest to your accomodation and the
Waldemar Petersen
Haus (see coordinates P 5 on the local
map of Hirschegg) is Ausserhirschegg (N 7). Detailed
information will
be provided in the accommodation sheet of the 3rd circular.

If you come by plane the most suitable international airports are
Munich,
Stuttgart
and
Frankfurt
(all located in Germany).
All three airports have frequent city-train connections (S-Bahn) to
the corresponding central train stations. Frankfurt Airport has its
own long distance train station (AIRail terminal/Fernbahnhof).
Trains for Oberstdorf from:
- München leave every hour from 7:20 till 21:21 (with zero, 1
or 2 changes; duration 2:30 h)
- Stuttgart every hour hour at 8:47h till 19:47h directly go
to Ulm,
there change to local trains towards Kempten Oberstdorf (sometimes a
further change in Immenstadt); Duration 3h
- Frankfurt Airport (AIRail terminal) ICE trains leave every hour at
7:54h till 19:54h and between 11:20 and 17:20 -> with changes in Mannheim, or Stuttgart, or
Ulm or even Augsburg to
local trains towards Kempten Oberstdorf (sometimes a further change in
Immenstadt); Duration 5h
- Frankfurt leave sometimes twice the hour at 7:49,
8:49, 9:05 ... till 17:49 (with 1 to 3 changes; duration ~ 5:00 h);

the 7:49h ... trains directly go to Ulm, there change to local trains
towards Kempten Oberstdorf (sometimes a further change in Immenstadt);
- the 9:05h ... trains have a further change in Stuttgart

current timetable of the
"Deutsche Bahn" for appropriate train
connections to Oberstdorf.

Please note that although Hirschegg politically belongs to Austria
it can only be reached via German
(see road map),
Credit cards are not
accepted everywhere. Persons with travel documents, which enable them
to enter Germany, need no further visa to go to Kleinwalsertal, since
there is no border control.
The Kleinwalsertal is a well-known
skiing area.
There are 10 lifts at Hirschegg and some 5 km away cable
cars going up to 2000 m. One of these (Kanzelwand) offers a direct
connection to the
Oberstdorf
skiing area.
Skiing-equipment, also for cross country skiing, can
be rented at shops in Hirschegg.
