The map (not true
to scale) shows the main train connections to Kleinwalsertal. The
train station closest to Hirschegg is Oberstdorf in Germany (it is the
end station of that train line). From there you can get a bus to
Hirschegg (local map
of Hirschegg), which according to the present time table goes about
every 30 minutes from 8.30 until 20.15. The bus ride lasts about 30
minutes. Choose the bus stop closest to your accomodation (given on the
accomodation sheet). The bus stop for the Waldemar Petersen Haus is
Ausserhischegg. Detailed information will be provided in the third
circular. If you have any problem, you can call us at the Waldemar
Petersen Haus (phone from Germany: 08329-5217) from Sunday 17 h on. If
you come by plane the most suitable airports are Munich, Frankfurt and
Stuttgart.
Please note that although Hirschegg politically belongs to Austria, it
is German-currency area. Credit cards are not everywhere accepted.
Persons with travel documents, which enable them to enter Germany, need
no further visa to go to Kleinwalsertal, since there is no border
control.
The Kleinwalsertal is a well-known skiing area.
There are 10 lifts at Hirschegg and some 5 km away cable cars going up to
2000 m, one of these (Kanzelwand) offers a direct connection to the
Oberstdorf skiing area.
Skiing-equipment, also for cross country skiing, can be
rented at shops in Hirschegg.
