Software
We provide a great range of software on our AIX machines. Only a subset of the installed software is mentioned here. Follow the links to get more documentation about the mentioned programs.

Besides the usual shells ksh, csh and bash, the scripting languages perl and python are available for scripts.

For program development we provide compilers for C/C++ (xlc, gcc and g++) and Fortran 77 (xlf).

For Mathematics you can use Mathematica.

Editing bitmap graphics is a job for xpaint. Vector graphics can be done with xfig. For scientific diagrams you can use xmgr or gnuplot.

Typesetting in the physics world is a synonym for tex or latex. We use the very complete teTeX distribution.

Communication with the rest of the world is done by email (mail, elm, emacs netscape), news (emacs gnus, netscape) and surfing the web (netscape).

Configuration
Here you can find some hints and tips for the configuration of your shell and your X11-Environment.
